PERSONALITY: What makes Kagome special is her kindness and unerring empathy for people. Even when kidnapped and threatened, as happens to her quite often, she never looses the ability to see the people behind the actions. Her meeting with Kouga and his pack is a great example of this. Despite being kidnapped and used as a jewel shard tracker, Kagome focuses on the kindness that the other wolf demons showed her, and their attempts to protect her from harm. She never once thinks to use their battle as a cover for escape, and instead stays and does her best to fight alongside the pack. Throughout the manga she is the one encouraging Inuyasha to stop and help people, whether it will assist in their search for more jewel shards or not. Kagome has a strong sense of duty to do the right thing.

The other side of that, however, is her enduring and often times explosive stubbornness. Kagome is not afraid to speak her mind, even when she knows that someone Inuyasha isn't going to like what they hear. She constantly opposes Inuyasha, encourages the group to take risks or go on side-quests he doesn't care for, and, when she becomes fed up with fighting with him, flees through the well back to her own time. Her conflict resolution skills are severely lacking and mainly sum up to 'avoid it until it goes away'. Even her attempts to apologize and own up to her mistakes tend to be met with confusion and wariness because it's not often that she feels solely responsible for a fight. She also has a blistering temper that can rise at a moments notice. She's very self-conscious and easily offended about remarks made about her looks, or comments that sound seemingly perverted in nature. Even general name calling can set her off yelling a scathing come-back. She's also quite willing to be underhanded in order to win an argument: see every single time she makes Inuyasha "sit".

Despite having lived the life of an ordinary modern day teenager, Kagome operates spectacularly in stressful and life endangering situations. She adapts to the dangers of the feudal era quickly, and when the demon centipede starts destroying the village hours after Kagome first arrived in the feudal era, she wastes no time in using herself as bait to draw Mistress Centipede back to the Bone Eater's Well. She shows great bravery when she takes responsibility for collecting the scattered jewel shards, evening knowing that she is definitely putting her life at risk, and creating un-explainable problems for herself in her own time. While brave, she often errs on the side of reckless, throwing herself into dangerous situations because she refuses to turn away from injustices. Despite having good reasons for it usually, her actions can come across as selfish as she is usually the first to realize her lack of power or ability and nominate Inuyasha to fight in her place. As she grows into her abilities though, she becomes a much more reliable support in battle, often firing off arrows from the side-lines and watching the backs of her friends.

Kagome is an incredibly smart girl, despite what her math exams say. She is very studious and cares deeply for her education, even while often having to push it aside for feudal era drama. We most often see her rushing back home due to some exam or another that she needs to study for and attempt to pass. She is very responsible and, mostly, is able to balance her obligations between school and the feudal era. She's also extremely clever outside of her studies. Even early on in the series Kagome is seen to be quick-thinking, such as when she reveals to the Thunder Brothers her ability to locate sacred jewel shards so that they have a reason to keep her alive, and lead them to targeting Inuyasha so that he can fight them and save her.

While being pretty mature and responsible for someone her age, she is terrible at dealing with her emotions. Aside from being an openly emotional person to begin with, once deeper feelings begin to factor in she becomes more reserved and stand-offish. Matters of the heart are the one area where she struggles to be completely open and honest, and instead jumps to her own conclusions in order to avoid facing rejection. The one time she does believe Inuyasha is rejecting her, neither of them say a word to each other, and she decides that going back home for good would be the best thing. Overly dramatic? Definitely. But she is a teenager with little to no dating experience in the midst of her ~first love~. Also she gets hilariously petty and jealous about Inuyasha, despite the fact that she has two other guys actively chasing after her that she does nothing about. I guess you can tack on "is definitely hypocritical" as well.

Her ability to see through and completely bypass illusions will also be weakened, allowing her to get caught in illusions. However, she will be difficult to trap for long periods of time, and within an hour of being in the illusion its effects will begin to fail.
